WE'RE ALL GONNA BE P***IES SOON
Forgive my french. it's a new day, a new week and we're supposed to be looking at positivity but, I think we should all learn to call a spade a spade and not a garden spoon.
Let me break down this story and help you understand very well why I made that statement up there. You see, social media is a "tool" and we are meant to use it as a means of communication and networking (that's what it's supposed to be). But there is a major problem. A tool created to help us communicate has helped us destroy people, it has helped us Network with what mummy calls BAD FRIEND. Let me tell you a story.
You see, growing up, I was the unintelligent invisible kid in school. I was so isolated and I believe everyone thought that was my personality. No one knew I was going through a lot, no one knew that my isolation and timidity was as a result of a battle that I was fighting in my head. bla bla bla. This post is not about me. You see, in class, there were intelligent ones, the strong ones and the athletes (FOOTBALLER OF THE YEAR) and all these people were the ones that properly defined what success looked like at the time and life was a bit cool for us in Nigeria though some of us had to go through a lot to be safe during the day. sha at the end, brother Social Media called facebook and 2go rolled in. we all climbed and was growing friends, chatting and doing all those stuff people do on social media. and somehow, we could lie on social media. the world felt safe to me and a lot of other kids that were depressed at the time. we could come online, claim to be super cool, grow followers and friends that will ask what's wrong when we are down, life was totally sexy at the time. But then, the time to pay the price for these lies came in. social media got serious that algorithms decided how many people should talk or not talk to us. I'll explain why I'm saying all this.
You see, social media being the world we exist in, the number of followers, views, likes, and comment is what determines our happiness and sadness. the problem is that most of us that ran to social media for attention has started losing it and depression is rolling in. some of us that gained attention became targets on Twitter. you see, every one of us on social media tend to feel bad when the numbers don't increase. you think of it as just twitter, Instagram and Facebook. there's a killer called Whatsapp. You see, we share our feelings and activities on our stories a lot. checking story views to feel good about the number of people who viewed, and looking out for replies can be really fun until you go on to say how sad you are feeling and no one cares to reply. I mean, all your 150 contacts that have their read receipts on saw your story about losing someone and no one cared to ask what or why it happened.
What do you think is currently causing depression? I believe it's social media. Do you know how depressing it is to post a really great picture or a video with values on social media and get only 10 views in 23 hours? if you know, then I'm sure you'll understand why I'm about to leave social media. as much as social media has helped a lot of us, it has destroyed people, it has killed people, it is killing people and it will kill people. We need to outgrow these platforms and stay alive. I've deleted my Instagram account a lot of times basically because I can't handle the pressure and thought of having 2k followers and barely anyone cares if I'm alive or dead.
I don't know if this post will change anything and I don't know if any social media troll is reading this. but please and please. we're tired of burying people dying because of social/cyberbullying and just so you know, your response on twitter to someone's tweet with the aim of getting on savage response is CYBERBULLYING. it's not always funny. THANK YOU.
I'm just interested in knowing. IS TROLLING COOL?
ARE YOU ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE THAT ALLOWS YOUR NUMBER ON SOCIAL MEDIA NUMBERS GET TO THEM?

Trolling is never cool but I think we can reduce the amount of trolls b not engaging in comments of people that wants to troll so they can just chill and know no one is interested
ReplyDeletethat's a reasonable approach. question is how many people can handle trolls by actually saying nothing?
